Banorte adopts the Equator Principles

Mexico City, 12 March 2012

It is with great pride that Banorte "El Banco Fuerte de Mexico" - the strong bank of Mexico and the nation’s third largest, announces its adoption of the Equator Principles today, Monday March 12, 2012.  This makes Banorte the second bank in Mexico to become a signatory.

The Equator Principles are a credit risk management framework for determining, assessing and managing environmental and social risk in project finance transactions where total project capital costs exceed $10 million USD. This initiative, created together by nine international banks and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) aims to provide standards for due diligence in the investment decision-making of its signatory institutions. Currently, 75 institutions in 28 different countries have officially adopted the Equator Principles. It is a great honor for Banorte to take part in this global project.

The Equator Principles adoption reflects the integration of social and environmental criteria in the way we conduct business. As a major Mexican company, we believe this long term vision to be essential to deliver sustainable services.

In our Declaration of Sustainability, we hold sustainability to be vital in the process of maximizing the profitability and growth of our institution, by providing at all times a balance between the financial, social and environmental aspects of our operations. The Equator Principles are an important step in this direction. To make Mexico stronger.
